Local Color
Artists
Gallery!
It was a desire to have a location to showcase their artwork that brought about this partnership of seven local artists.
All seven artists are members of the Federation of Canadian Artists, which was originally started by The Group of Seven. Here you’ll find a variety of works to suit a variety of tastes and budgets. And when you stop by the gallery, you’ll also have the opportunity to talk with the artists, as they also run the gallery.
The Artists:
Lynne Marand
Lynne’s favourite medium is mixed media or acrylics. She likes colour, drama and texture.
Barbra M. Mosby
“The play of light fascinates me and is my main objective in most of my paintings.”
Jack Deppisch
“As a visual artist, looking at all the different expressions of beauty I am never without new life – in my life.”
Marlene Aikins
Marlene has incorporated several years of art workshops, courses in various mediums and tons of “at-home” studies to evolve into her views of the world at large. She has centred on the Okanagan in the past few years, finds florals, landscapes, or people equally fascinating to work with, and uses oils, acrylics and watercolours to accomplish these images.
Barb Hofer
Barb is inspired by the natural beauty and biodiversity of the landscapes, the seasonal changes, the animals and plants, and the variety of agricultural bounty of the Okanagan Similkameen. She uses acrylics, watercolour and mixed media to capture the serenity and excitement of the exquisite rural settings depicted in many of her paintings.
Sharon Snow
Sharon paints landscapes, portraits and still life using either acrylic, pastel, or graphite. “Acrylics are perfect for capturing the warmth and vibrancy of our beautiful Okanagan Valley.” She enjoys paintings of children in everyday situations – “Children are so honest and carefree.” To get away from the realism of landscapes and portraits she often creates mixed media collages of still life.
Grace Shaw
Grace has been an artist her entire life. The past 18 years Grace has been painting with acrylics, pastel and watercolour. For Grace it is all about capturing how light plays upon the subject followed by form, texture and layers of rich colours. Her artwork is inspired by the Okanagan's beautiful clay cliffs bordering the many lakes, people on sandy beaches or miles of trails, orchards and vineyards.
Art Moore
Despite not having had a formal education in art, Art has a love for the work and finds it very enjoyable. He became interested in artwork as a child, but career choices took him away from it. In 1992, he began painting and drawing again in Prince George with a group on the Hart. Although Art tries to paint all subjects using different mediums, acyrlic seems to be what he would like to stay with. Currently an active member of the FCA, Art also belongs to a group called Brushstrokes which meet every Thursday at the Gallery.
